The Daily News website goes offline

The website of one of Zimbabwe’s most read daily newspapers, The Daily News, is down. We’re told by a reader that the website has been this way since at least yesterday morning. Currently, opening the www.dailynews.co.zw address loads a ‘403 Forbidden’ page served by the web hosting company.

Here’s a screenshot of the error page:

It’s not clear yet what has caused this. It might be the website was hacked and had to be taken offline. It might also just be an upgrade going on behind the scenes or even that the Daily News is moving the website from current hosts to a new one (in a not so smooth manner). Our checks show the website is currently hosted in South Africa by a company called Uniwebserve.

We’re reaching out to the Daily News to learn more.

thanks @richwell

Very good question, they hosted that site in Canada and at times their site will be blocked because they would have exceeded their bandwidth. Wow it seems they moved to service provider SoftLayer Technologies in Dallas, TX in United States they left ZA long time ago I think before resuming print in Zim.

    …….2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/…..

Looks like they have reached there bandwidth limit or they have not paid for it! Most hosting companies might give you just enough bandwidth to access your website so that you can pay.
