In a country where business and development is centralised in the capital city, you’d expect a national ICT association to have its main operations in Harare. In the case of of the ICT Association of Zimbabwe, you’d be wrong. The organisation, which has taken it upon itself to help bridge the tach gap between cities and rural areas by targeting ICT in education, was born out of Mutare. Away from the noise and commercial distractions of Harare.

We first came to know about the association from Hasha Maringe, its founder, back in July 2012 when he told us about the work they were doing with schools in the Manicaland province (Mutare is the city of the province). He told us about the ICT training workshops they were conducting for headmaster and teachers in the schools in the area. Later we attended an event they hosted in October last year where they launched a partnership with computer distributing non-profit, Computer Aid.

We were therefore delighted to hear the organisation is going strong and that last week, they opened a ICT resource centre at a school in Chimanimani called Nhedziwa High School. According to a report on the development, the resource centre will provide members of the community access to internet and several other computer related business services. The resource center is a partnership between the school, the ICT association, and Econet Wireless non-profit arm Capernaum Trust.

You can read more about the resource center here.
