One of the leading, (maybe most visible) 24 hour emergency roadside rescue services company, Road Angels is developing an Android based road emergency services and rescue app. Sources at the company say the app development process is at the 90% complete and the app is expected to hit the market within weeks.

We managed to get a sneak peek of the beta version of the app and it has some pretty useful features listed here.

  • Emergency services number: Users will have access to countrywide emergency services numbers that include police, ambulance services, VID, and the fire department. Users can narrow done search to the particular are they are.
  • Driver relevant information: The road angels app has a distance calculator, service information (nearest filling station, etc), maps and local traffic fine figures to help make sure people pay the right amounts when the law comes calling.
  • Trouble shooting: The trouble shooting feature will give free (remote) access to Road Angels’ mechanics should users need help with minor mechanical challenges.

Road Angels say the app will be native so there will be little worry if you need to use it in remote areas.

Late last year Telecel launched announced a VAS product called 911 Road Assist that didn’t make enough sense to justify its subscription based pricing, but this Road Angels app may be something motorist may appreciate and the best part is it will be free.

We will get hands on with the app and give you more details.

This is fantastic news. As a long distance driver I’m looking forward to this app. I like the idea of having traffic fines at my finger tips.

Bribe calculator would make a bit more sense. An indication of the average amount of bribe to pay in a certain area

Sounds good on the face of it, let’s see when it launches and then again we need iOS version.

Sounds great, only just saw the traffic fines tab, I think this will be a key feature esp if they combine it with a “Who to Call” if the particular officers of the law are being difficult.

This alone would make me use the app.

Raymond I could agree with you more! I think they need to sit down with the Commissioner General on this and get the necessary assistance.

    Sounds worth an award already!
