Flappy Bird creator, Dong Nguyen working on several other games and hints at possible return of Flappy Bird
Dong Nguyen, creator of the addictive, infamous Flappy Bird has been quoted in various online blogs saying he is working on more games. One of the games that will be coming this month is an “action chess game” called Checkonaut. Another is Jetpack, which involves a bird and a so far untitled cowboy game.
In an upcoming Rolling Stone feature, Dong Nguyen gives some indication of the scale of addictions to Flappy Bird which prompted him take the weirdly popular game down. He says he received text from mothers complaining about their child’s addiction to Flappy Bird, kids smashing their phones due to frustration and people losing their jobs over it. The great thing for Dong Nguyen is he is still raking in loads of money from Flappy Bird, and because of all the hype around his first game, people will be eagerly waiting for his new games.
He also hinted that Flappy Bird may return with a few tweaks to try and make it less addictive.
Tim Berners-Lee calls for an online bill of rights
Now that the Internet has turned 25, it’s impacting more lives and realising it’s undeniable influence, the inventor of internet technology Tim Berners-Lee has called for an online Magna Carta to protect the openness and neutrality of the Internet. In recent times, many governments and companies have been increasingly trying to exert some level of influence on the internet which Berners-Lee feels undermines online freedoms.
At the heart of this proposed “Online Bill of Rights” are issues of privacy, free speech and responsible anonymity. A TechCrunch article on these particular issues outlines how government and corporates have shifted in their internet activities from providing information to now harvesting information and surveillance.
If this proposed Online Bill of Rights ever kicks off, it’s more likely that Governments will move to entrench issues of surveillance and monitoring more than preventing it. In short, it may just achieve the opposite effect.
Nokia Launches the Nokia X in Kenya, with pre-installed local apps (TechWeez)
Nokia X has officially entered the African Market starting with Kenya. Earlier in the week, Nokia Launched the same device in India confirming that the Nokia X is primarily targeted for emerging markets before we even look at the specs.
Judging by the specs, Nokia X will compete with entry level Android devices along the lines of the Samsung Galaxy Young. However, Nokia has always been famed for durability and great hardware, it will be interesting to see if this tradition has been carried over to their first Android device.
Interesting to note that Nokia has preloaded Kenyan apps like the Daily Nation App, Nairobi News App, Ma3Route App and Mledger Mpesa App.
