When it comes to African tech entrepreneurship there’s always a lot that is said about the Kenyan ecosystem and all that’s come from it.

In a lot of these discussions names like iHub, M-PESA or Ushahidi usually come up as familiar references to the East African technology space.

We have an opportunity to find out more abut the Kenyan ecosystem. On the 8th of December (this coming Monday) One of the iHub co-founders, Erik Hersman will be in Harare at Hypercube Hub sharing his story and meeting the people in our tech startup ecosystem.

Besides iHub, Hersman, who also has his own blog called White African, wears many hats that include; general partner in Savannah Fund, founder of the multi-author African inventions site AfriGadget, co-founder of open source platform Ushahidi as well as co-founder and CEO of BRCK.

The BRCK is a Designed-in-Africa (with Africa and extreme environments in mind) connectivity device that acts as an internet backup generator. With its rugged look (literally looks like a brick), power saving capability (solar charged as well) and functions for connecting multiple devices with a 4Gig storage, it has gained a lot of attention.

This visit is a stop over on the BRCK overland expedition from Nairobi to Joburg that Hersman and his co-founders have been taking part in. The guys started off in Kenya and have passed countries like Zambia, Tanzania and Malawi where they have met up with guys in other startup ecosystems.

If you are keen on hearing Erik’s story, getting some insight on the Kenyan startup scene and to check out the BRCK, you can register here to attend the fireside chat scheduled for 4 pm on Monday at Hypercube.
