Comexposed 2015, Zimbabwe’s first comic book expo is happening right now

Ever heard of Sergeant Porice, Ganyamuto, Arcadia Knight or Black Zeus? Don’t worry you aren’t the only one drawing a blank stare. These are names of Zimbabwean animation and comic book characters. I hadn’t heard of them either until this morning when I got to Comexposed.

This is Zimbabwe’s first Comic Expo, sort of our own Comic Con. It’s being held at Alliance Francaise` in Harare. Over the course of today, some of Zimbabwe’s animators, comic book artists, gamers and all round comic buffs (they proudly wear the geek and nerd badge) are meeting together to share ideas, showcase their work, build relationships and establish how far this industry can go.

This is the brainchild of the Comexposed team, the crew that has been religiously documenting the local comic book/animation/gaming industry with a show on YouTube. It’s been sponsored by local companies like Hisense, Dairirbord and The Solution Centre. Part of the expo will be a video game tournament and there are chats with some guys who’ve carved out names in the industry.

It’s a great place to pass through if you are a comic book buff, but if you can’t make it, we will be following the event on social media where we’ll share details of the fun stuff happening here.

I attended this event and think it was an amazing beginning! The talent on display was fantastic and a lot of young aspiring artists that attended got much needed affirmation. 2016 is going to be awesome!
