Audio Interview with Econet Connected Lifestyle GM, Shepherd Hondo

L.S.M Kabweza Avatar

Yesterday, at the launch of Econet Connected Home we interviewed the General Manager of Connected Lifestyle, Shepherd Hondo. He explained the proposition of the service, the pricing structure and that the service already has huge demand locally.

Essentially, Econet is attempting to find new areas of growth for the company given the decline in their traditional voice business, and Connected Home is the first launch in a series of IOT services for their subscribers. We posted some opinion on the service in the articles published yesterday.

Below is the interview audio. As usual, we’re keen to hear out your opinion on this new product line.

Please can you provide a transcript or develop into a written article?

Just curious, why do you prefer text?

I can read faster that people speak, so a text version will take me less time to consume. I also process information much better if I read it, compared to listening.

Last, but not least. My wife is now deaf, so the video is pretty much useless to her, but the provision of an additional transcript would be really beneficial.

Thank you Ndashaya, you expressed that far more articulately than I could have responded!!! Further, I would add that some people may be wanting to read in an environment where audio is not appropriate.

      Well said.

Auto play should also be disabled by default as it may not be suitable in a work environment

My view is that for now in this economy, this product is not a seller. Its chasing the wind. It will be a loss leader for a very long time. Timing is important for some innovations and in Zim this ain’t the time for this. Dollar for two type products are what will sell in this environment where $15 billion was stolen and noone can account for it

A country where >60% has no magetsi and the vast majority is living on a hand to mouth existence with no running water and a drought looming!….Talk about inappropriate technology at its best hey!
