EcoSure, the mobile-based insurance service from local telecoms operator Econet has been subject to a lot of changes over the past few years including the launch of spin-off services aimed at specific groups.

According to Econet, one of those added services, Ecosure’s burial society service now has over 2,000 burial societies since its launch last year. Newsday has reported that this number was shared at the launch of the Mabhodho Promotion which is aimed at encouraging signups of burial societies.

Burial societies are an old concept in Zimbabwe and in the neighboring countries like South Africa.

They encourage groups of friends, relatives, church members or workmates to contribute towards a fund that will assist each member in the event of a funeral.

EcoSure burial society service was introduced to complement existing societies through an EcoCash wallet for contributions that also provides security.

The savings made by the group accrue interest and when a member dies EcoSure guarantees processing of claims within 24 hours. EcoSure general manager, Godwin Mashiri said that the service is now processing over 400 claims per month.

How many people do you consider to be a group to be able to join the ecosure burial society. And what do you consider for a group in joining the society.
