Man topping up electricity, ZESA Tarrif increase, ZESA tariffs

The ZESA-Econet battle has finally come to an end as both parties seemed to have reached some form of an agreement allowing anyone with EcoCash access to purchase prepaid ZESA electricity tokens from the popular mobile money service.

A source first alerted us of the new developments this morning by mentioning a closed-door meeting that took place between EcoCash and its Agent over a new ZESA feature.

Another reliable source confirmed the first source’s story adding that the service is not yet live but will be available to EcoCash clients come Monday, 31st October 2016. They also provided us with some images from the closed-door event that took place sometime this week: zesa-ecocash-2 zesa-ecocash whatsapp-image-2016-10-27-at-12-24-03

We had not reached out to Zesa or Econet for comment by the time of publishing this article but will bee seeking an official comment from both parties.

More Details to follow…

It was rather short sighted for the Government to have been allowing Econet/Ecocash to sell tokens. Their pettiness was against a good business decision. Zesa needs to have as many possible vendors/options available for them to increase cashflow to their struggling entity. It’s sad it took them this long to realize that they were shooting themselves in the foot by being so hard headed!

I dont think its good because econet it seems like econet is the only company to get all the money wat will happen to all smaller companies like getcash and some that sell prepaid electricity this goverment is jus not fare

I guess it really isn’t fair. This handful of smaller companies should be protected. Who cares about the millions who can now benefit from buying electricity from the comfort of their homes?

There’s no protection needed here, Innovate or Die. They could have created USSD applications as well to attract the masses.

        1. Phil

Econet, Telecel and Netone are the only one able to create USSD applications and they denied other vendors knowing they wanted to launch it themselves. So yeah nothing much you can do when you not Econet

This has affected small businesses really Js that Econet bulldozed its way through the courts its not that players already in the field where not meeting the demands I feel it was not necessary to rope in this multimillion company into this

This will be good if you are not charged to buy tokens, otherwise buying in small amounts the transaction charges will be less, but if you buying say $100 + per month it will be a lot. if you then do the math if you are going to be charged to buy tokens via ecocash you will realise depending on your usage you will spending an extra truckload of money every year on charges alone

the smaller companies were given their chance to make money with ZESA,but it seems like they failed…….Enter the big boys now!

It’s very convinient for me I was sending money to Zimbabwe to Zesa agents with extra $$ for charges. Won’t be going thru that ardous route no more. I have the ecocash app on my phone.I tried to contact Afrisoft about their Instapay app but got no response. Guess how many people I will be telling about the ecocash option! Disruptive Innovation ndizvo. Let’s allow competitive players to catapult us to “Internet of things”. Look at Rwanda they are streets ahead of us guys yet we boast of highest literacy rate

    Econet
    Ecocash
    Ecosure
    Ecogas(Redan gas)
    Eco Zesa
    Ecoshopper
    Eco everything.

Econet is also coming your way, in whichever business you are doing. Your time is limited. You can Neva compete with a company as big as econet.

Let me not comment for now.
