For most people with fond memories of an early 2000s mobile experience, mbudzi phones (that’s Shona slang for”dumb” phones) were the order of the day before mobile broadband became a thing.

However, one device that made an impression was the Nokia 3310. It was one of the most popular devices then and actually ranks as one of the best selling devices of all time. Even after retreating into history it earned a cult status because of its legendary durability and a great battery.

Now, Nokia wants to bring back the 3310. According to VentureBeat, a modern version of the 3310 is set to be unveiled at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC 2017). It’s an homage to the 3310 of yesteryear.

HMD Global, a Finnish company which currently handles the manufacture of Nokia phones is set to unveil the new 3310 along with 3 other devices the Nokia 3, 5, and 6 on the 26th of February 2017.

A price estimate of 59 Euros (about US$63) has already been shared as well, though it’s not yet clear if this new, more expensive Nokia 3310 will be as indestructible as the classic version or have the same long lasting battery that made it such a hit.

Without whatsapp it can’t go nowhere. And with whatsapp it can’t be that indestructible

But there are some loyal cadres to the vintage like myself, i will go for it, even for a neat 5110 i would offer $50+

Well, I’m excited, I still have my old Nokia 3310. I want to see how it compares to the new generation 3310.

“…. a modern version of the 3310 is set to be unveiled at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC 2017). It’s an homage to the 3310 of yesteryear…”

That is misleading, it is rumoured, not a fact. It can be true, but also a marketing strategy to generate interest. Read the article you refered to again.
