At the qualifying Startup Challenge event, held last week alongside BarCamp Zimbabwe on 3 August, only 2 startups, Mukela Travel and Sadomba-Mahari, managed to make it to the finals. The target was 5 startups to battle for the collective prizes totaling $25,000 – sponsored by Zimbabwe Online (ZOL).
As a result there are 3 remaining finalist slots to fill. To fill those remaining 3 slots we have organized another qualifying event to be held on Monday 15 August, 2011. The pitching event will be held at the Meikles Hotel Harare Club in Harare. Once the 5 slots have been filled and the finalists have been awarded, the final Startup Challenge 2011 will be held two weeks later at the same venue. The exact date will be announced in due course.
If you are building a tech startup or have a great tech idea that you feel is going to make a huge impact in Zimbabwe and beyond, please enter the challenge. There are no fees to enter or compete.

Startups that pitched on 03 August 2011 and didn’t make it are welcome to pitch again with the same (but significantly improved) or different idea.
