Mark Zuckerburg, the famous founder and CEO of the world’s largest social network Facebook, announced today that his company now has more than 1 billion monthly active users. The announcement was made on the fb.com site by the 28-year-old billionaire:
This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month.
If you’re reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.
Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.
I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.
A fact sheet with the details of the achievement says the milestone was reached on 15 September 2012. The company also says more than half of its users, 600 million, are using Facebook from mobile devices.
According to current stats by a renowned Social Media company, Socialbakers, the five countries with the highest number of Facebook users are; the US (166,184,300 users), Brazil (58,483,200 users), India (55,328,820), Indonesia (47,523,900) and Mexico (38,364,600). The site also says the whole of Africa has 48,021,400 Facebook users.
Unfortunately Facebook doesn’t make stats on Zimbabwe available so all we can do is estimate for now. Apparently there’s a policy there that bundles us along with the likes of Iran, North Korea and Sudan.
Here are other interesting stats released today about Facebook since it launched;
- 140.3 billion friend connections have been made
- More than 219 billion photos have been uploaded
- More than 62.6 million songs have been played 22 billion times.
