Instagram’s new web profiles

I love taking pictures with Instagram, it’s an amazing photo sharing app available on both iOS and Android. For some time now it only had mobile profiles, but now users have dedicated web profiles to view all your  friends’ pictures for the browser.

Instagram recently announced the launch of web profiles, a Facebook like collage of your pictures taken using the mobile application. Each profile features a header with the user’s latest photos, a Follow button, and a grid of user photos organized by date. Hovering over a photo pops up how many likes or comments it has.

The web interface lacks search capabilities, a news feed or the ability to upload pictures. If you want to access someone profiles you’ll have to either enter in a friend’s URL directly e.g.  instagram.com/nike or you can click to their profile from an image they’ve tweeted or posted to Facebook.

For those with privacy concerns you can change your privacy settings in your profile settings menu, if you’re concerned about who can see your photos. Geo-tagged photos are not yet available on your web profile. Your followers and following aren’t publicly accessible, although your bio and profile image are public, unless you remove them. Instructions to modify privacy settings can be found here.

The rollout for the profiles has been slow, but everyone is expected to have their profile by the end of the week.

Because Instagram is simple, easy to use, and allows you to adjust and crop photos, many big name companies are using it to teach their social media audience.
