Locally developed BMI Calculator app lands Opera Top apps for 2013 award

Locally developed Body Mass Index or BMI Calculator app for symbian devices received the Opera Top App awards for 2013 in the Health and Sports category. The BMI app was developed by Avelgood Apps, a Bulawayo based company that develops varying mobile apps.

Commenting about the award on their blog, the company said:

We are very delighted to be the winner of the Opera Top Awards 2013. Our BMI Calculator app took the trophy in the Sport & Health category. This app runs on Nokia Asha, Nokia S40 and Symbian platforms.

We feel quite humbled to know that there is such a great number of BMI Calculator users for us to deserve this award. Thanks a million to you all for your support.

The BMI Calculator app is a simple and free health app that calculates a person’s body mass index. The app has been downloaded 45668 times on Opera’s app store.

Recipients of the Opera Top Apps Awards are selected from 210,000 applications available on the Opera Mobile Store with a bias towards the most downloaded apps.

    Well done but…BMI it’s only semi accurate for the average sedate person. BMI is not accurate if you lift weights and carry above average muscle mass. If you carry above average muscle mass, it will say you are overweight.
