Hypercube to host programming workshop for skills development

hypercubeLocal technology and innovation hub Hypercube Hub will be hosting a training series entitled “Programming for Beginners” starting tomorrow at 5:30pm in Belgravia, Harare. The price has been set at $30 for all three sessions.

The three part series will be conducted over three consecutive Tuesday nights (15th, 22nd and 29th of April 2014) with each session lasting two hours. This series is a foundation for Hypercube’s follow up workshops including introductions to app development, web development and other related components.

No previous programming experience is required to participate in the series but the invitation has also been extended to web designers keen on getting a better grip on coding as well as programmers keen on broadening their exposure to new languages.

This is series is part of an elaborate effort by Hypercube to impart tech skills to the growing “techpreneurship” ecosystem. Last month they conducted a database development training workshop. Currently they are promoting an animation workshop set to run from the 22nd to the 26th of April 2014 as well as Zimbabwe’s first Startup Weekend scheduled for the 16th to the 18th of May 2014.

Zimbabwe’s tech hub ecosystem has experienced a rapid growth in the past nine months alone and the true definition of what a “model tech hub” is supposed to deliver is being shaped by the different activities that each or all of these hubs will be engaged in.

Skills development and training is a major focus of not only Hypercube Hub but other hubs like Muzinda Umuzi Hub. This approach is sorely needed in an environment still in its infancy. These efforts, together with free access to resources like what Econet Zero has set in motion, can act as strong building blocks in creating a more productive tech environment.
