WorldRemit, the global money transfer and remittances services company, together with MTN, the Pan-African telecoms concern, have announced that its customers can now send money instantly to MTN Mobile Money wallets in Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia.
The two entities signed a global partnership in 2015 which extended this money transfer facility to MTN Mobile Money customers and gave WorldRemit access to a 16-country footprint. to make a transfer, users of the service need to access the WorldRemit site or app, select the destination country and proceed with the process for sending funds which are then delivered instantly.
It’s another feather in the cap for UK based money transfer concern which offers remittance services to people in more than 52 countries. According to WorldRemit, it processes approximately 400,000 transfers a month to 125 destinations. As part of its strategy it has partnered with other mobile operators such as Tigo and Zantel.
MTN Money also experiences an upside through this, enabling the engagement of an established remittance concern in the movement of diaspora funds into the MTN ecosystem.
The same value propostion has also been explored locally by Econet Wireless which has the same arrangement with WorldRemit and other remittance companies for its EcoCash subscribers. Zimbabweans can receive money from outside the country straight into their EcoCash wallets through WorldRemit.
The same facility was created by WorldRemit and Econet Burundi and it enabled the 2 million Econet subscribers in Burundi to have access to diaspora remittances from 350,000 Burundi citizens outside its borders.
