So rumors of DStv services in Zimbabwe being suspended have been spreading, here’s what’s going on

Most of us have DStv at home as our primary source of entertainment and have come to love it. Over the past months, banks in Zimbabwe have started to not facilitate DStv payments or limit you the amount or worse charge you an extra fee for the transaction. This was largely due to the fact that DStv requires the payments to be in foreign currency (USD or RAND) and we all know it’s not easy to come by these days due to the cash crisis.

With most of our accounts using bond notes and the developments that have happened in Banks, many have started to worry about the future of DStv locally. We received a statement from MultiChoice today to address these concerns, here it is in full:

Rumours circulating in Zimbabwe to the effect that DStv services to the country are being suspended are wholly inaccurate, and the set of DStv bouquets available to Zimbabwean viewers remain on offer.

Liz Dziva, publicity and public relations manager of MultiChoice Zimbabwe, said today that rumours about a suspension of service popped up on a regular basis and had no foundation in fact.q

“DStv services to viewers across Zimbabwe remain on offer,” she said.

It’s good that the services are still available in Zimbabwe. However, how does one actually pay for DStv in Zimbabwe? We are getting in touch with a someone from MultiChoice so that we can get the latest information on payment methods. We will update you as soon as we have the information.

This is a golden opportunity for Kwese. The wisdom of having your own local entertainment providers is being validated.

It will only be golden if the Gvt gave them a license.

Is Kwesi H/O not based o/s the country? Anyway whether they were based here or o/s they would still need to pay hundreds or millions in forex to pay for content. How wud they pay if based in Zimbabwe? Wise move not to be in Zimbabwe. Our poor landlocked country makes me so sad.Well since 2000.

You are right. They might have to use some financial engineering where they get a loan from their external investments to cover fees for Zim content. They already paying for that content for other places and I am sure a bit of outside the box thinking can find them having access to that content. Customer acquisition is crucial and if DSTV fails to make payments possible, I am sure Kwese would think of means to acquire those clients even at a higher cost. Just a thought.

They have an option of paying online using your Master Card with Pay U. I don’t know if the Ecocash Master Card would work though. Have been trying to get through to them but no-one is answering their phones. So if your contact knows, please also advise on this option using the Ecocash master card.

I’m failing to process payment via their website. Taking ages to navigate to payment page..and so frustrating. DSTV customer care is pathetic. We surely need competition for these services.

This has become another business opportunity for some guys. They are charging $5+ for paying peoples’ DSTV subsriptions. Reminds me of the way i paid for my DSTV during the Zimdollar era.
