EcoCash announced just before the Heroes Holiday long weekend that they will be carrying out a scheduled maintenance exercise from Saturday 12 August 2017 at 2200 to Sunday the 13th at 1400. We tested the service yesterday and it was back up and running.
Econet themselves issued the following statement to announce that the service is running again smoothly:
Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has announced that its Ecocash mobile money service is back online following scheduled system maintenance work on the popular platform.
A statement from the company yesterday said the maintenance work had gone according to plan, and the system was back up by 2 pm on Sunday, August 13, as scheduled.
“We are pleased to let our customers and business partners know that the Ecocash platform is fully functional again, following the scheduled maintenance work carried out last night (Saturday, August 13) and through this morning (Sunday, August 14),”
“All EcoCash services are back online and fully functional, and our customers can transact again using the USSD (unstructured supplementary service data) method to access the EcoCash service menu on *151#, or using the EcoCash App on smartphones,”
“Econet takes this opportunity to thank all its customers, merchants, agents, banking and business partners, as well as all our other stakeholders, for their corporation, patience and support during the period of the scheduled maintenance work”
Econet last Thursday through to Saturday morning announced in multiple media channels, including print, electronic and online media, and via its SMS service and social media platforms, that the company planned to carry out scheduled maintenance work on its EcoCash platform from 10pm on Saturday night, up to 2pm the following day (Sunday).
Announcing the planned downtime, the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Douglas Mboweni, said the scheduled maintenance work would optimize the EcoCash platform to handle increased volumes of transactions in the coming months, in light of the increased adoption of electronic financial services and ahead of the busy festive season.
