So one of the most hyped fights in boxing will be happening on Sunday in America. The money fight of Floyd Mayweather and Connor McGregor has been scheduled for the 26 of August but will be Sunday 27 August for us in Zimbabwe starting 01:00 (Zimbabwean time)r. Throughout the course of time since its announcement, the two fighting superstars have been having a go at it on social media.
The Money Fight: Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor
Due to the hype that has been created around this match, the tickets to watch it as close to the ring have been ranging from $500 to as high as $10 000. No wonder why it is being called the money fight. The two will are scheduled to start at 01:00 with the preliminary fight then at 03:00 with the under card and finally hopefully go according to schedule with the main bout starting at 05:00.
It’s not only called the money fight because the tickets are so high priced. It’s also because many people will have high stakes on one of the two hoping to win big. The winner will also walk away with a high bounty. The fight is expected to draw many eyeballs well above the millions due to the high publicity the two have. So you might be wondering, how can you in Zimbabwe or Africa be able to view it since you’re not in America. Here are some options.
DStv is guaranteeing to air the money fight for premium subscribers
DStv has announced that they will be showing the match on their SuperSport 2 and SS Maximo 1 channels. However, this will not be available to all DStv subscribers, only premium subscribers will be able to see the money fight in it’s expected glory. For those of you who were already subscribed to DStv premium then it is a great thing since you will not have to pay anything extra
In case you are not already a DStv premium subscriber, it is still a bargain to pay for DStv somehow and watch the show since it will cost you $72 USD. It’s a bargain because it is reported that people in the US are paying as much as $99 to watch the fight via pay-TV. Now we all know that it’s currently not that easy to pay for DStv in Zimbabwe so how can you view the show if DStv isn’t an option? Maybe be on the look out for some Facebook live shows.
Some Facebook pages might go live to air the money fight “unofficially”
This event will probably not be any different. Those with access to viewing the match, on their TV whether through pay-per-view or some other means have been known to “Periscope” (Twitter’s live streaming service) such events. Take Mayweather vs Pac****
People naughtily put their phone in front of their TVs and live streamed the fight on Twitter’s live streaming service. So if you are on the look out, you might be able to catch an unofficial live stream of the money fight on Facebook. Now there’s no guarantee that the Facebook live streams of the money fight will stay on as Facebook has no rights to broadcast the match.
They also might just take down the Facebook Live streams that will be broadcasting the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight due to the fact that they don’t have the rights to broadcast it. Now, this makes me think that Kwese Free Sports app might have just missed a big opportunity to get the rights to the match and then air it on the app, let’s take a look at why.
Kwese Free Sports app might have missed the money fight broadcast opportunity
Kwese TV didn’t manage to make it in Zimbabwe. However, the Kwese Free Sports app is accessible to Zimbabweans. Today, Econet zero rated the Kwese Free Sports app so that Zimbabweans could watch the Boxing explosion event happening at the Rainbow Towers in Harare. From our efforts, we failed to watch that boxing event from the app even though it was said to be zero rated. Anyways, probably boxing fans downloaded the app to see that match so could Econet do the same thing for this event?
Well, it’s currently not clear. Econet Media has not made any announcement as to whether Kwese Free Sports will broadcast the Mayweather vs McGregor fight. It’s probably that they do not have the rights to do so and it might be a missed opportunity for them to get more Zimbabweans using their app who are looking forward to watching the match.
So will you watch the Mayweather vs McGregor fight?
DStv will broadcast the money fight of Mayweather vs McGregor. So it’s up to you to see which medium is accessible to you and then watch it from there though you’ll have to wake up a little bit earlier than usual or not sleep at all. If you do find another way for people to tune into the event, please share with us so we can add it here for people to find. Let us know if you will be tuning in in the comments section and why?
