EcoCash recently partnered with Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA) to allow you to make payments for tollgate fees using the popular mobile money platform, EcoCash. The payment method is now available at all tollgates across Zimbabwe. So if you’d like to start paying for tollgates using EcoCash, you might be wondering how to do it, here’s a guide to help you.

Register Your Vehicle Registration Number

Before you can start using EcoCash to pay for tollgate fees, you have a register the vehicle that you’ll be using within EcoCash so that they can confirm that is the right vehicle to be paid for at the tollgate. To register your vehicle, follow these steps.

  1. Get into EcoCash by dialling *151# and entering your pin
  2. Select Make Payment (option 2)
  3. Select Regular Payments (option 6)
  4. Select Pay Toll Gates (option 3)
  5. Select Register Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) (option 1)
  6. Enter your Vehicle Registration Number and submit
  7. Once you’ve reached this step, you have successfully registered your vehicle, otherwise, contact EcoCash support for help

Once you completed the above steps, you’ll be able to pay for tollgate fees for that vehicle using EcoCash. To put funds into the Tollgate account which you’ll use to pay, follow the next steps.

Put Funds Into The Tollgate Account To Be Used For Your Tollgate Payments

At this point, you should have a vehicle registered, if you haven’t registered the vehicle yet, look at the steps above to do so. Now, assuming you have a registered vehicle, before you can pay for tollgate fees using EcoCash for that vehicle, you have to load funds into a specific account called Tollgate Account which will be used to make the actual payments. To do so, follow these steps.

  1. Dial *151# to access EcoCash and enter pin to login
  2. Select Make Payment (option 2)
  3. Select Regular Payment (option 6)
  4. Select Pay Toll Gates (option 3)
  5. Select Load Tollgate Account (option 3)
  6. Enter amount you want to add and submit
  7. Once you’ve reached this step, you have successfully funded your tollgate account, otherwise, contact EcoCash support for help

After following those steps, your EcoCash wallet will be deducted with the amount you specified. The funds will be transferred to the tollgate account so you can always have a separate balance for your tollgate payments.

How To Pay For Tollgate Fees using EcoCash

If you’ve done all the above steps, then you’ll be all set to make payments for tollgate fees using EcoCash. To actually make the payment for the fees using EcoCash, you simply tell the Cashier that you’d like to make the payment using EcoCash and give them your mobile number which is the same EcoCash number you did all the registrations on.

The Cashier will use that number and also verify that the vehicle in front of them is the one registered for tollgate payments using EcoCash which is why you have to do the registration we mentioned earlier. If everything checks out, the tollgate fees will be automatically deducted from your Tollgate Account if it had funds and you’ll get a notification of the transaction.

Step #7: Only one message keeps popping out: Account could not be identified. I have reported this to them and I was referred from one ‘door’ to the other until i was even referred to ZINARA!!! Oh boy!!!
I am keen to know of anyone who has succeeded in toll gate registration using ecocash otherwise I am of the view that Ecocash is just making noise about a half-baked service. Nxaaaaa

Lucky you…. Did the same and they referred me to any econet shop. I did and they said we have sent an email to technical. Upon another follow up, they said you may have to go to Zinara. At that point I just gave up!

Why does anyone use Ecocash? It is so cumbersome andexpensive. Cards like MyCash and Textacash are far more convenient and less expensive. Just swipe or Zipit.
