AfricaCom 2017, Africa’s largest technology, telecoms and media event, is right around the corner and with it, it brings an awards ceremony that will be part of the 3-day event. AfricaCom Awards aim to celebrate the achievements of the best companies, solutions, products and personalities improving connectivity and driving Africa.

For the AfricaCom Awards 2017, 3 Zimbabwean companies (or companies with Zim roots), Econet Wireless, Liquid Telecom, and ZOL, have been shortlisted to get a shot at snatching some of those prestigious AfricaCom Awards.

Mahindra Comviva and Econet Wireless

Fintech Innovation Award

This award recognises an innovation in Fintech that has shown potential for both scalability and sustainability. Judges will also look for an innovative business model that addresses real market needs, such as unbanked communities and women in rural areas.

Mahindra Comviva and Econet Wireless partnered to bring EcoCash Diaspora which allows Zimbabweans overseas to send money to their friends and relatives back home. It’s this product that has got them shortlisted for this award.

Liquid Telecom shortlisted for AfricaCom Awards

Best Network Improvement Award

This award recognizes the most successful initiative from an operator and/or a vendor that has significantly improved the performance or coverage of a network in Africa since the end of November 2016. In 2014, Liquid Telecom won the VSAT Innovation for Africa award and their VSAT service is what got them to be part of the shortlist for this award.

Delivering Excellence in Customer Experience Award

This award recognizes a company or initiative that has provided a compelling customer experience. For example that could be through developing an integrated Customer Experience Management strategy, utilizing data innovatively, or considerably improving mobile user experience.

Liquid Telecom’s Listen, Measure, Understand and Improve is what might get them to win this award.

ZOL shortlisted for AfricaCom Awards

Most Innovative Service “The Business of Tomorrow” Award

This prize recognizes a popular new offering which, from conception to execution, has been an innovation. It could be for the consumer or the enterprise markets, and could be messaging, mcommerce, video, etc. It must be in an African market and should have offered significant new prospects for revenue growth and customer satisfaction.

ZOL Fibroniks-on-the-Go is the product from ZOL that could get them this award.

The AfricaCom Awards go beyond just these

There are more awards that other companies are competing for so you can take a look at the full list of awards and shortlisted companies if you’re interested in that. For each type of award, only 1 company will win and that will be announced at the AfricaCom Awards ceremony on 8 November so stay tuned for that.
