[Press Release] The Startup Trying To Solve The Unemployment Problem: Meet EMF

Farai Mudzingwa Avatar

Evaluate My Future is a startup that aims to solve the unemployment problems that have been plaguing countries the world over. They plan to do this through an application that tracks goals and an evaluation platform that helps ascertain progress made in meeting these goals.

You can read their press release below:

Unemployment has become a world wide problem, there are more graduates than job opportunities. Governments are trying to create employment opportunities but it is not that easy. 90% of the unemployed are youths and they can’t get jobs because they lack experience. We find graduates on the street corners selling airtime or tomatoes for a living. The sad part is even if they are killing it at selling tomatoes they can’t put it on their CV and add value to it. At the end of the day why can’t we consider selling tomatoes as a job. EMF App as come up with a solution to make informal experience measurable against formal experience.

We are promoting passion over experience, it is sad that employees have lost passion at work it. We have more clock punchers than passionate people and we expect companies to grow. “EMF is here to bring back passion and make users stand out amongst the rest”, explained Rose Rufaro Makoni the founder of EMF motivators. “Technology is evolving and we should find ways to apply it even to solve unemployment like what we are trying to do, companies should be tired of employing people who are not passionate, we are saying EMF is here to bring out people’s passion so that it will be easier for them to pick the best candidates.”

How it will work: You download the app on to your phone or tablet. Register an account with EMF and it will take you to goal page so you can start working on what you want to achieve. On the goal page you can set your goal name, you can give a brief summary of your goal. Goal is out of 100 percentage. You enter your start date and end date. You can then save your Goal. On your top left bar there is task icon you can click on it to add task. Tasks is breaking down your goal into smaller components that you can manage. You can add as many tasks as you want and on your task page you can add task name brief description task percentage and completion date.

If you miss a task it will grey out and deduct task percentage from overall goal percentage .EMF will send you a reminder for you to work on tasks before completion date. Goal details page shows all the goals you are working on and if they are completed or not. On this page you have the option to share your results on social media. My progress page will show you the progress you made that month using pie charts, bar chart etc. you can also share your monthly progress on social media as well you will find the share button on the top right corner.

At the completion of your goal you should have Goal name, brief summary of goal, list of passed and failed tasks and overall percentage. You can share your results on social media or have it as word or PDF. EMF will be able to provide solid evidence of users hard work even if you are applying for a job employers will be able to see how well you can work with little resources and no supervision.

“We plan to use artifical intelligence to determine mood and send you a motivational quotes according to your mood in the future”, said Jerry Dengu one of EMF director. “We plan to change the game and encourage youth to follow their dreams. Experience should not dictate our future, we should follow our passion and meet goals we set”.

EMF will also send you motivational quotes to encourage you to work towards goals. It should also help small businesses keep track of the goals they set. It is time as youth that we should create opportunities for each other.

On the 24th of March EMF had a soft launch of their prototype which had great response from young adults, students and small business owners. “EMF App is giving us hope as students we worry what will happen to us after school, if EMF can show our hard work and make us stand out we are going to support it. We have great ideas and I think with the help of EMF we are able to share them”, said Nicholas a student at UZ.

We plan to release the App very soon follow us on Facebook “EMF App” for a live release of the app. It will be available on Playstore, Applestore and Windows.

Its an interesting idea but i don’t see how this is solving the problem of unemployment. The problem is not that employers don’t know where to find prospective employees, The problem is employers don’t know where to find jobs to give prospective employees. Their innovation IMO is useful if they partner with recruitment agencies as this will qualitatively improve the pool from which prospective employers are drawn from

Thank you for your comment. We are promoting passion 90% of employees are clock punchers coming to work to do what they are told to do which doesnt make a business grow because only 10 people coming up with ideas for a company with 1000 people. It did work long back but not now with technological developments and competition. We also plan in the future to train management on how to change work environment. Someone in IT is working customer service how can they make customer service better when its not their passion but give them some tasks in IT you will be shocked they can help resolve bigger issues. Youths dont get the job because they dont have experience and end up doing anything to survive we saying no matter what small jobs they do we going to make it measurable so when they apply a job they can stand up with they head up high. Please watch the launch video to understand our concept. We are touching not only users but even companies we not saying its a solution but a step in the right direction

In Zimbabwe, people aren’t unemployed because they can’t stand out in a crowd. They are unemployed because there are less jobs than the number of people needing them. This app cannot change that balance.

From my understanding, they are trying to improve the chances of those with poor CVs, by current standards, getting a job.

Thank you for your comment. That issue not a problem in Zimbabwe only all around the world jobs are less. We come to the root cause of why they are less jobs and at EMF we feedback lack of passion in employees. We promote passion over experience. If you have passion IT why cant you picked over someone with experience probably you have better ideas that could make a business grow. Reality is 70% of the youths are getting jobs in the wrong fields and move to another job for better working conditions. How do they improve the business, they dont even drive yet there is Rose who is killing it selling tomatoes but she cant get the job because she doesnt have experience. We understand this means our work environment has to change and training course for management on that. EMF is simply saying experience is not enough we need passion. If you and I stand we can change the game not for us even future generations to come. Imagine working with people who are passionate about what they do, do you think we would have all these problems. We are not solution but we are trying to help reduce or encourage people not to give up. Please watch our launch video to understand our concept

Well this seem on face value like a classifieds for jobseekers…I don’t know about innovation but it could work… Depends on marketing and if classifieds.co.zw device to get in…muscle you out

  9. jonso

My input is there are no jobs because we do not produce anything. This means jobs are mostly in the service industry etc.The solution is just simple let’s grow the agricultural sector, lets try to assembly our own goods, lets solder, lets weld etc

This seems like a good concept on the surface but I will have to agree with some of the individuals who have already commented that this will solution will not solve unemployment. An idea needs to be easy to understand and straight to the point. The AMF launch video is 11 minutes long. That’s too long to tell us what the app does.
