Ok that’s a brave claim considering that if there’s anything that’s abundantly available on the Google Play Store then wallpaper apps are high up that list.
I’ve been using Google Wallpapers for most of 2018 and a part of last year and I think a lot of other users agree with my assertion of this being the best wallpaper app. The application has a 4.3-star rating in the Google Play Store from 71k reviews and over 45k of those are five-star ratings. So what does Google Wallpapers have going for it?
I’ve tried wallpaper applications before but the biggest problem I would always have with these apps was how much I would have to fiddle with settings in order to get what I want. Instead, Google Wallpapers doesn’t even have a settings section. Either you set the application to change your wallpaper on a daily basis (which is the setting I roll with) or you can manually choose from a number of categories which include:
- On-device wallpapers
- Geometric Shapes
- Solid Colours
The daily wallpaper is my favourite option because I don’t have to spend time filtering through hundreds of wallpapers and finding the right one which is a herculean task when most if not all of those wallpapers are nice to you. The simplicity of just downloading the application and letting it do its thing is very convenient.
If you are also a fan of one particular category and you can set your daily wallpapers to rotate within that one section. For example, you just want wallpapers of beautiful cities then rotating the Cityscapes wallpapers might be a good idea.
It’s not all roses either
The lack of settings are a hindrance in that if you’re the type that would want to change your wallpaper maybe three times a day, then that option is taken away from. You still can do that but you would have to go about it manually which isn’t the most appealing way to experience the app.
If you’re not impressed by Google Wallpapers, Zedge Ringtones and Wallpapers is another highly rated wallpaper application and it’s been downloaded over a million times so clearly it has something going for it. It also has a higher 4.6 star rating from over 6 million reviews which means if we are speaking objectively this might actually be the best wallpaper app.
Wallpapers and visuals are just generally a very subjective thing. It all boils down to preference. If you like certain types of wallpapers (e.g car wallpapers) then the Wallpapers app might not even cover that. I guess that’s something you have to decide for yourself. Me, I’m sticking with Google Wallpapers through thick and thin.
