Last week, Zim Morning Post broke the news that Econet and Steward Bank were violating labour laws in a pretty lengthy post. We broke down that post here. Whilst our efforts to obtain a comment regarding this post were not fruitful, Econet did respond to the Herald and addressed the claims for the first time since the story broke.

Econet said that the reports were “patently false and irresponsible”. The Herald report states,

The company said the article referring to alleged labour malpractices by Econet Wireless and Steward Bank “had both several factual errors and misleading messaging and conjecture which we strongly object to and which appeared nowhere in the report the reported purported to base the story on.”

Econet also made it clear to the Herald that they abide by the country’s labour laws and that their HR policies recognise and respect the rights of their workforce:

We are one of the biggest employers, in the country and our contractual arrangements with staff are at all times within the law.

The Herald article also seems to suggest that Econet may take legal action “when reckless falsehoods are peddled that have no truth whatsoever except to propagate false perceptions.”

Econet is joining the likes of Uber to be a repulsive organisation. It also seems Strive has personally become a repugnant and vindictive individual who likes to bully and brow beat people by throwing his weight around. Steward might not even be violating any laws but they employ slaves
