ZESA – Social Media Claims That Electricity Is Cheaper On The 1st Day Of The Month Are False

It seems there’s a lot of confusion regarding ZESA’s new tariff system and with that confusion, people are failing to understand how the tariffs actually work.

With electricity units being sold at tiered rates it seems some people misunderstood this to mean that if your purchase electricity on the first day of the month, you’ll get a promotional/cheaper rate and ZESA has taken to social media to dispell:

ZETDC would also like to advise that there is no promotion or any cheaper electricity to be obtained by purchasing on the first day of the month, as is being reported in the social media. Please note that these messages are not true and should be ignored.

The correct position is that customers can buy the 1st 50 units at 41c, the next 150 units (51-200) at 91c and any other purchases beyond the 200 units arre charged at $3.87. These charges apply at day of a given month, be it the 1st, 10th, 25th etc as long as it is their first purchase of electricity tokens that month.

    Technicaly its TRUE coz your lifeline allowance resets on the first day of a new calendar month, its only that its not limited to that first day only. But we cant say its false, just misinterpreted.

    Waal, it’s good, I like it because it limits people from consuming more power, however, ZETDC must now make sure that the same said electricity is available so that we don’t pay in vein.

      Are you then saying high prices for say bread are good because they limit people from consuming too much bread? Doesn’t this sound silly to you? We are now paying for poor or lack of planning. It was evident in the early 80s that we would have an energy supply problem. Instead of building power stations we were busy looting from the state and killing citizens to consolidate ZANUPF political hegemony. We were so consumed by the one party state project that anything else no matter how important was put on hold. Now the chickens have come home to roost and we have no clue how to resolve the economic chaos we find ourselves in. It’s so very tragic that we thought running a country was like herding a few cattle on the commons.

    This explanation is incomplete as it leaves out the %age you pay towards rural electrification. This %age dhould just be dropped as it does not make sense to adk conumers to pay for rural electrification when they are struggling to purchase power for their own use.

    I bought Zesa for 55 dollars first of the month I got 85kw isn’t that 1.5per kw.that not .41as you are saying.explain plz.

      @Chigama..Yes you got the correct units. Your first 50 units u got them at a cost of 20.50 which means the remaining 34.5 is equivalent to 37.91 units at the rate of 91cents per unit

    If I buy kw for 50rtgs at the first purchase am I going to be given the next 150kwh for cheap?
