Google Meet Rolling Out Noise Cancellation Feature.

Zoom’s astronomical rise during stay at home orders has forced many of the big tech companies to push their own existing or develop new conferencing software.

Google has been hard at work in this respect. They are trying to make Meet the conferencing platform of choice. Back in April Google announced:

“Over the past few weeks, we’ve extended advanced Meet features to all G Suite customers so that they can get the most out of Meet. We’ve also ramped up engineering support for Meet, both to ensure we’re scaling responsibly and to bring our users four of their top-requested Meet features. These features use technologies like Google AI to improve meeting quality and user experience, and will gradually roll out to customers globally, beginning today.”

Google.

One of those features was Noise Cancellation. Google are using AI and cloud computing to cancel background noise. Here’s a demonstration of the feature at work by Serge Lachapelle (Video Produced by VultureBeats):

This is quite impressive although it isn’t the first of its kind. Nvidia’s RTX Voice offers something similar. There will no longer be any need to open a packet of chips quietly or worry that your kids playing in the background will disrupt your conference call.
