“Jumbo” all social media privacy settings in a single app


The one thing that most people can agree on is that no one can really trust big tech companies to protect our privacy. There will be regular privacy policy updates with promises of creating a truly safe environment for our personal information. But the truth is these changes are too frequent and can be very confusing.

Decreasing one’s digital footprint on any site or app is also sometimes difficult because privacy policies are very lengthy documents. The settings to change anything about the data you have on the site are usually difficult to access. There are few social media platforms where these settings are user facing.

Launched a little over a year ago Jumbo is a privacy app that is trying to bridge those gaps.


What is Jumbo?

This app allows you to take some control of the information you have put out on the internet and on social media. Think of all the searches you made on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter or Instagram. The posts from years ago that you made and you may want removed but sifting through your feed will take an eternity.

Well that’s what this app is all about. It lets you archive old posts on to your device. It does this by deleting posts and putting them in a vault in your device. Searches on social media and search engines can also be cleared

You log in to all your social media accounts through the app and start cleaning and protecting each individual account. It covers Twitter, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Google, Amazon, and Instagram

The company says that user information is not stored on any servers and is processed on the user’s device. Their model is that they want to be a business that doesn’t rely on selling user information in order to make money.

After launching last year Jumbo, in a new update introduced two paid tiers, Jumbo Pro and Jumbo Plus. With these tiers there are added features like blocking ad trackers while you surf the web. The company has a “pay what you think is fair” slider that lets you pay anywhere between US$2.99 to 14.99 a month.

The test after the launching last year is to see if people will pay for the services they are offering. In a report by Engadget CEO Pierre Valade said that they need 100 000 paying users in the next two years in order to sustain the business. It will be interesting to see how they get along with this goal.

The price is steep but I like the service that this app provides. I have been using the free trial and I can say that it does what it is advertising.

It’s definitely worth a shot and the app is available on iOS and Android.
