The US government has relaxed export restrictions, allowing Nvidia to resume sales of its H20 AI chips to China after a months-long ban.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang spoke at a press conference in China revealing news they expected to get export licenses for their AI chip “very shortly”.
During his trip in China this week, Huang praised Chinese AI and electronic companies DeepSeek, Alibaba, Tencent and Xiaomi.
The US Commerce secretary said this week that the US government’s change in policy had been part of recent trade talks between American and Chinese negotiators.
Why this matters
Nvidia is a dominant player in AI chips, and China is a critical market for the global semiconductor supply chain.
The suspension of chip exports to China followed US concerns about technology transfer and national security.
However, trade negotiations involving rate earth minerals that the US needs from China have led to a relaxation of the restrictions.
