New blog ZimboKitchen.com makes local recipes available online

Staff Writer Avatar

Blogs providing content on various topics are launched every now and then in Zimbabwe; Even though most of the blogging is everyday average stuff, once in a while you come across a blog that stands out on quality of content, local relevant content and most of all, consistency. This is what strikes you most when you visit a new local food blog ZimboKitchen.com. It’s easy to see they are paying attention to these things.

The website’s founders wrote to us recently letting us know of the launch. According to them their mission is to simply ease the pain of Zimbabweans, local and abroad, who love to cook Zimbabwean dishes but don’t know how. They offer traditional recipes as well as instructions on how to cook international cuisines using locally sourced ingredients.

We’re not exactly food or cooking enthusiasts here, but we know some of you out there are and we’de love to know if they’re addressing a problem you had accessing this knowledge conveniently.

Without clarifying how much, managing editor of the site, Aurther Shoko, told us they raised some seed funding for the site from some local investors. According to him, the site is getting some followers already, proof that there’s need for the content they provide.

Oooh man! I’m loving this…the publishers of this website realised it’s not about the design or functionality of the website…it’s in the content!

    Nice work!

I like that Anesu, you actually worried about the design and not content while the owners worry about the “content and not functionality”, but for me, all does it, sleek design and functionality and reach content

Concerning a commercial strategy, l suggest they look into a sponsorship model with Gloria, National Foods etc First concentrate on building value and an active community. Good luck!

Are you caching your pages? I’m guessing they are mostly static, meaning you can cache aggressively and avoid connecting to DB on every request

im loving the design and content and was looking for something like this for sometime as I love cooking. the recipes are original with a twist and that makes them impressive. The pictorial detailed instructions make sure you dont go wrong coz half the time I use a recipe book what I end up with is totally different. Next step in an adroid app
