Zimbabwean engineers contribute to draft cyber security bill, highlight privacy & criminilisation concerns
This process has included consultative meetings that the Ministry of ICT has been engaged in with various stakeholders. The Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers (ZIE) was the latest grouping to contribute to the drafting of this law.
The good news is that the government is aware of the e-waste challenge and steps are underway to curb any risks that it brings. According to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of ICT, Engineer Sam Kundishora, a policy on national e-waste management has gone through the initial draft stage and will be presented in June 2016.
The 2016 edition of government’s e-Tech Africa Expo kicked off yesterday at its familiar venue the Harare International Conference Centre. This year, the two-day conference is running on the theme “Creating a Climate for Innovation and Access to Global Markets”.

Earlier today, we published a story noting that the the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) received an award for a website that was down for more than a month (including the the time they received the award). The award is part of the ICT Ministry’s annual ICT Achievers Awards.
Soon after we posted a story yesterday listing the winners of this year’s ICT Achievers Awards, comments to the article have all been negative with the common thread being that some winners do not deserve the awards at all. One such organisation that has been criticized is the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) which got the “Top Public Sector website of the year” award. Their website, www.zimbabwetourism.net was down. Well, under maintenance as the web host’s place-holder page above suggests.
Zimbabwe’s Ministry of ICT, in partnership with a company called Africa Exchange, is set to hold an ICT exhibition and conference event called “e-Tech Africa Expo 2012” in October this year. The event will run from the 1st to 5 October. A conference will be run alongside the exhibition from the 3rd to the 4th of October. According to communication sent out to by Africa Exchange the event “provides a platform for networking, exchange of views and experiences towards the growth of ICT’s in Africa”.
