We’ve also confirmed that the re-branding is part of a directive from Telecel Zimbabwe’s parent company, the Amsterdam headquartered VimpelCom.
According to the information we received, the initial intention was to rebrand Telecel Zimbabwe into an image similar to Leo in Burundi, another VimpelCom subsidiary. Re-branding into the full Leo image was however not possible for the obvious reasons.
We still haven’t received a response from Telecel’s PR people on the matter. In the meantime, brace yourself for a completely red Telecel come Valentine’s Day.
