Techzim Offers ‘Pay What You Want’ For Bitcoin Payers To Digital Future…

As the clock ticks closer to this year’s Digital Future event, Techzim and partners TBWA have announced the acceptance of Bitcoin as a means of payment for this year’s event.

The crypto-currency, which has been gaining in value over the last couple of months (currently valued at over US$1,750/1btc), mainly due to being ‘officialised’ as a currency in Japan, though slow to take off in Zimbabwe, has been gaining in usage thanks to platforms such as Bitmari and BitcoinFundi.

The ‘Pay What You Want’ option that the event hosts have decided to implement was done two-fold; firstly to see to it that local online media and marketing practitioners attend the event, but also to add the incentive of allowing locals to use the bitcoin that they may have accumulated over the years.

Speaking of the payment option, Event Coordinator William Chui stated that realising Zimbabweans were challenged with a ‘cash crisis’ and even after partnering with Zimbabwe’s premier online payment integrator, PayNow, enquiries were being made as to how to make payments using the digital currency and there was no better way than to offer such an option.

Responding to what would happen if someone paid as little as $1, while other forms of payment requested $300, Chui stated that Techzim believed people would see value in the event and would pay “what it’s worth to them at least.” “Should someone value our events at $1, that would be rather interesting but would be a signal to us that work needs to be done highlighting the value of the event to the Zimbabwean online community”.

Head of IT, Limbikani Makani, stated that the process was rather simple and all one had to do was to get in touch with Techzim through their WhatsApp number (+263715071199) using the keyword ‘Bitcoin’ and from there they’d get the bitcoin address for where payment would need to be sent.

Once payment is made and confirmed a ticket for the event would be generated and the next step would be seeing that one makes it to the jam-packed event and receives value.

Confirmation of attendance has been made by numerous companies from around Zimbabwe, mobile networks, banks and financial institutions, mobile device suppliers as well as advertising agencies.
