New Samsung App replaces Opera Data Saving App

Last year Opera discontinued their data management app, Opera Max. This came as a huge blow to third world users as the app enabled users to manage data usage and observe which apps consumed data aggressively.

Samsung steps in…

Samsung has now taken over the app and renamed it to Samsung Max. The app has a Data Saving Mode which actively compresses web pages and multimedia access on the phone. Other features include an Incognito Mode which helps avoid targeted ads and data snoopers from tracking you. Apparently, there’s also a ‘Boost Wi-Fi’ feature that helps improve connection of weak hotspots and crowded areas. When testing the app, I was connected to a less crowded high-speed network so I can neither confirm nor deny the quality of the Boost WiFi feature.

Samsung has a host of less useful branded apps but I think the Samsung Max app is the most useful amongst them.If you are using a non-Samsung device you are still covered as the app is compatible with other Android devices.

Samsung Max will come preinstalled on all Galaxy A and J devices from 2018 going forth. You can also download the app from the Google Play Store.
