Samsung Galaxy S4Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has announced that it’s now selling Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4, in its Harare and Bulwayo stores. So far, the price revealed is US $900 cash. Ads in the press and the company’s Facebook page say however that payment options are available in the stores. If the S4 packaged deal will be something along that of the S3, expect to pay Econet a minimum $80 a month (half of which goes to voice, sms and data usage) for 24 months.

The Galaxy S4 launched internationally on the 27th of April and has since broken records at Samsung as one of their fastest selling smartphones ever. The company said last week that the phone had supassed 10 million units sold (to mobile networks & other channel partners that is) just less than a month after launch; a rate by far much quicker than any of its predecessor models.

The S4 is successor to the equally famous Galaxy S3. Feature wise the S4 spots: Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean), a 5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED screen, a 1.9 GHz Quad-Core Processor, 13 Mega pixel camera, 16GB up to 64GB user memory; 2GB RAM and 3G HSPA+ connectivity among other bells and whistles. Full details here.

The fact that its only coming to the Econet network officially a full month after launch globally means that the phone is actually already available locally via phone dealers, most of them grey imports from Dubai and South Africa. A quick search on classifieds.co.zw returns pages of listings of the phone with prices ranging between $890 and $1,200.

If you have been to an Econet shop to check what the payment options are for the S4, please do share with us in the comments below. Or maybe you already use the S4 and just want to share if it’s everything it’s hyped to be; Seamless Air gesturing, Air View, S health and all!

No, Econet just wants you to buy the phone as Galaxy phones are notorious for their data guzziling abilities…and oh wait…Econet is notorious for its excessive data prices…mmm…

With the S4, you can set up alerts when you exceed your own set data usage limits. You can also disable background data, syncing and Set a limit after which the phone will disconnect you to save data.

You can specify a period(say a month) over which total data use should not be exceeded

If on budget and browsing for info only:
        – disable java script

        – disable images
        – avoid videos
        – disable auto-synching and background data use

Then how different will the S4 be to an X3?

Seriously? That isnt the real challenge you know.

The real challenge is one’s pocket. Otherwise, we wouldnt be talking about this in the first place :D. You’re complaining about prices, I gave you solutions to make it easier and still own the S4

            Lol

You can also use juice defender it saves the battery and also switches off internet when screen is locked

This is not a feature phone on internet. Keep track of all you apps and tinma@n’s advice and you’ll be fine. I think this may be a great deal

$900 damn, u’all are being ripped off!

    1. FR3SHDroid

Ripped off really.. What would you consider a fair price??

  3. Chipanga

$900 is a fair price. This phone is costing £600 in UK

This is not a RIP off at all. I have both S3 and S4. Its just a marketing strategy from samsung. The phones are so similar
