Telecel & Econet team up to help the Mighty Warriors quest for Cameroon Gold

Mobile Network Operators Telecel and Econet have teamed up to help fundraise Zimbabwe National Women’s Football team, “The Mighty Warriors”, campaign at the recently started AWCON tournament being held in Cameroon.

The “Quest for Cameroon” initiative will use a dedicated SMS platform to raise funds for the Mighty Warriors ensuring their stay in Cameroon is comfortable allowing them to focus on the football and not administrative issues in the background. The Mighty Warriors got off to a stable start in their opener against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana which the drew 0-0.

Speaking on the initiative, Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee, Ms. Lillian Mabayiwa commented that:

“We are conscious of the urgent need for all of us to come together and support the Mighty Warriors who have been representing us all and flying our national colors high on the football stage.”

To participate in the fundraising initiative, Telecel and Econet subscribers can send an SMS to 45678 with the text “GirlPower” and 50cents will be deducted from your account in a donation to the Mighty Warriors AWCON campaign.

For those skeptical of how and where the money will go, Telecel and Econet have partnered with Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC), a professional services firm, to manage all money collected throughout the campaign ensuring it all goes towards the Mighty Warriors needs.

So for all the football lovers and patriotic Zimbabweans here is your chance to play a role. The Mighty Warriors have gone through tuff times in the past year but have been able to represent Zimbabwe at the 2016 Olympics (they still haven’t got their Samsung Olympic edition phones held up by ZIMRA) and now at the AWCON.
