The DStv Price Creep Continues with Xtra View Increase

It looks like MultiChoice has decided to shake things up again, just in time for September. You know, so that the heat outside matches the heat in your wallet. Well, DStv is doing its part to make that a little harder.

From the 1st of September 2025, if you’re one of those people who use the HD PVR Access/XtraView service to keep the peace at home, you know, one TV for the kids and another for you, you’ll be paying a little extra. The monthly fee for that handy dual-view feature is going up from US$13.00 to US$14.00. I hyped it up, and you were scared for a second, but it’s just a dollar increase.

It’s not a massive hike, just a dollar, but every little bit counts, especially with how things are. So, it’s actually not a small hike.

If you’ve got questions about this, or you just want to vent, your best bet is to give the MultiChoice call centre a ring on +263 (242) 32600. Or, if you’re the quiet type, you can always go check out their website at [www.dstvafrica.com] for the full details.

This all comes after bouquet price increases in June where Compact Plus, Family, and Access subscribers all saw a US$1 increment, bringing the new monthly fees to US$46, US$21, and US$16, respectively. Compact saw the steepest price increase, going from $30 to $32.

When does it stop?

Soon after becoming a Starlink subscriber, I dumped DStv, in favour of streaming. They have been phoning me directly, and bothering me ever since, begging me to come back. So I really do not understand all the price increases. Because I’m not the only one who has abandoned them.

French media giant Canal+ is in the process of acquiring most of MultiChoice’s ordinary shares. I thought that this would bring about a significant policy shift, and perhaps even mark a turn around in DStv’s fortunes.

But alas, the company is as hardheaded and arrogant as ever. Which will without a doubt cause them to lose even more clients and market share. Especially when more and more people are able to access unlimited broadband at an affordable price, and stream at home.

If it is not careful and it continues to fail to move with the times, just like one time movie 🎬 rental giant Blockbuster, DStv too will become extinct.

TelOne too has adopted an extremely rude and vindictive approach. Bitter that I am no longer subscribing to their ADSL Wi-Fi service, they recently unceremoniously disconnected my landline. And this despite it being prepaid, and me owing them absolutely nothing.

On inquiring as to why they had done this without informing me. They said it was retribution, for me abandoning them in favour of Starlink 💫. And they told me point blank that if I want the landline to work, then I should again start subscribing to their ADSL service. 😂

Hopefully Amazon’s Project Kuiper will launch soon, giving me even more affordable high speed broadband options. The fact that they are partnering with South Africa’s 🇿🇦 Vodacom, is a major ray of hope for countries in Southern Africa. 🥰
