So, Elon Musk has a new venture, and as usual, it feels like a meme. This time, he’s taking on Bill Gates and Microsoft with something called “Macrohard.”
While the name is meant to be a funny jab, apparently, the project is not a joke. It’s part of his broader xAI initiative and it’s meant to be a direct challenge to the biggest names in global tech.
Elon Musk is one childish guy though. I remember playing that game with a friend of mine back in Form 1. Datsun became DisMoon, Kingsgate became QueensDurawall, and so on. That a middle-aged billionaire took one such name and named a venture after it is silly. But I like it.
What is Macrohard?
It is an artificial intelligence (AI) venture. The idea, according to Musk, is to use AI to build a complete software company from the ground up.
He believes that since companies like Microsoft don’t produce physical hardware, their entire operation, from code to market strategy, can be replicated and, even outdone by a powerful AI.
It’s a wild idea, but this is the guy who’s already shaking up the car and space industries.
The Colossus and the Trademark
This isn’t just a random thought from Musk; the project is very real. It’s linked to xAI’s Colossus 2 supercomputer initiative.
The plan is to have this massive computing power drive the development of Macrohard. And a sign that he is serious is that a trademark for “Macrohard” was officially filed in August 2025.
This trademark covers a wide range of AI-driven products and services, including software for producing human speech and text, and even chatbot software.
If we’re charitable to the vision, it isn’t just about a new company. It’s about a new way of thinking about what a company can be in the age of AI. Using AI to do what Microsoft does would be the greatest achievement AI has had to date.
Is this a genius move that will redefine the tech industry, or is it just another attention-seeking stunt from Musk? Only time will tell.
