What Are EcoCash Recoveries? A Clear Explanation for EcoCash Users

EcoCash Remittances

Some users have expressed concerns about unexpected deductions labeled as EcoCash Recoveries, particularly with ZIG transactions. There is no need to worry as EcoCash is not taking money from your account without reason. Similar complaints were raised some years ago, and the process was explained at that time as well.

EcoCash Recoveries are automated adjustments made to correct errors in transactions. They typically occur when a payment, such as purchasing airtime, paying ZESA electricity bills, or linking to bank services, only partially completes due to network glitches, system delays, or mismatched processing.

These recoveries are part of the standard reconciliation process, designed to prevent double payments and maintain account accuracy. This is similar to bank reversals used worldwide.

For example, funds may be credited to your EcoCash wallet but not debited from your bank account, or the opposite may happen. This can result in an over-credit, which the system later corrects by deducting the excess amount.

During this process, users may notice messages such as “ZiG [amount] paid to ECOCASH ZESA RECOVERIES” or “ECOCASH BANKING SERVICES RECOVERIES”, as shown by the picture attached.

I think the problem comes when they are unable to explain which transaction has not gone through. I recieved the recovery message in April and was told the Zipit transaction that is being reversed is something that had happened in the previous year in December and it had come from another person.

I then asked the person who sent the money if they had had the entry reversed and they said no. I then asked Ecocash to give me a letter so the person can take to his bank and they told to me use a screenshot of the chat. They outright refused to give me a letter to confirm that they didnt receive the funds.

Thats when I knew kuti ndabirwa because how do you refuse to acknowledge the process on a formal letter?

Also why doesnt my account go to negative when they say a transaction has not gone through?
