You may have seen this graphic showing how Starlink prices compare to leading fixed internet prices in Africa.
The analysis was done by RestOfWorld and it rightly observed that Starlink is cheaper than fixed internet in some countries.
We know this to be true in Zimbabwe. No fixed internet provider can beat the $30 unlimited Starlink package.
HOWEVER, I’m baffled by how wrong they got the Zimbabwean figures. Unfortunately, we have seen this happen with Cable.co.uk which is best known for this kind of analysis.
It’s probably because of the currency situation in Zimbabwe. It appears outsiders don’t know how to convert our ever depreciating local currencies to USD.
That’s me being generous though because a simple Google search would have shown them that Liquid is the leading fixed internet provider in the country.
Liquid’s website is clear enough and shows that there are promotional USD packages, with the cheapest being the $99 unlimited one.
If one were to pay using ZiG (Zim’s national currency) it would be ZiG5549 which could be converted to anything between US$158 to $215. A far cry from the $633 that RestOfWorld reported.
I would love to see how they got to that figure because there simply is no way any human with a function brain who does a little research would report that figure.
Don’t get it wrong. They are still correct in saying Starlink is cheaper than Liquid in Zimbabwe. Also, those prices are ridiculous, especially when one uses ZiG. But $633? Nah, that ain’t it chief.
Analysis of Restofworld is relevant. It is true that fixed internet is expensive in Zimbabwe and that $633 USD is correct specifically for fiber for liquid telecom of home use. if u change that ZwG 18,498 with official exchange rate it give you $633 USD for example,
FibroniX Turbo Pack
$(ZWG)
per month 18,498
Home service
Up to 250Mpbs.
Hi TechZim. If possible please find out for us and let us know, how many Starlink 💫 subscribers we actually have in Zim🇿🇼. I recall you mentioning that the first roaming subscribers were estimated at being about 5000. If it is possible to find out from either ZIMRA or DHL, how many kits they processed once Starlink 💫 was authorised to operate. We could then do the maths and have a decent idea of how many subscribers we actually have. Now that Starlink 💫 is actually legal, I’m noticing more and more of their antennas popping up on the tops of people’s houses. Worth noting is that I’ve only seen 2 third generation dishes, including mine, and one mini. The majority of the dishes I am seeing are the gen 2 ones. An indication that the majority of the kits were acquired before Starlink 💫 went live. At least in my neighbourhood. 🤔
Perception is everything if usaziwa ukuthi uyabheda even the day you things correctly the assumption will be kuyabheda
Hi Leonard just want to ask, do you know anything about some network called Tagtel heard it from my friend he’s been using th line for months so I hear it’s an Internet based sim just like th liquid ones
I have seen this as well their website is tagtel.co.zw and it says they are selling promotional data packages at $USD10 for uncapped data !!!!! They seem to only have pockets of Harare covered though. Is this real? Anyone using it?
Yes I have seen about Tgtel, but based on the comments on their Facebook page, many people are complaining about poor service, with some going days without a connection after paying for services, and customer service appears unconcerned. As a result, I would not recommend it.
As someone who once used econet at $13 fir ten gig of which when I’m streaming my stuff l use 25 to25 gig a day which means 26 dollars a day this gives you 780 a month

I tried to search 🔍 for their website 🕸️ but it keeps saying website under construction
Do we have another player in internet service providers
They probably took the Liquid Fibronix Ultra Pack at 10,800 ZWG and converted it with the old bank rate to get to to that figure.
ini ndoshandisa dolphine haaa hichi babab $$55 apa chorova kana 50MBps kana chakatsamwa. I am in Tynwald and no fibre
Was the search function so useless you decided to drop it? What’s the point of keeping old articles up if we cant navigate to them within the site?
You can search articles using either Google and append the word Techzim or just use ?s=my+search+query at the end of the URL
I would like to agree with the rest of the regarding extreme charges noted by other countries. Starlink on their website they are charging $30 and $50, but Zimbabwe is charging $175 monthly subscription, why.? Where do we defer with Zambia, Kenya and the rest.? We are just greedy and love 200% profit. It’s not fair to your citizens
Iwe usade ku defender internet inodhura muZimbabwe, one of the most expensive in the world
Yes it does cost that (approximately). If you want an equivalent bandwidth and speed (say >250mbps and unlimited (not just Liquid pretend unlimited) then you pay through the nose in blood and tears.
I have done the math it seems right…..even though it should have been like a $1000 per terra Zim so-called unlimited
