Some very big companies like Food World have setup online shops with a variety of payments options you could find anywhere across the world.
Econet has given subscribers with lines that haven’t been used in 6 months, up to one week to recharge these lines. Failure to do so will result in disconnection. There is a lot the operator will benefit from by doing this, largely because of an inactive subscriber total of 3 million. However, there are going to be a lot of holders of these inactive lines who might not respond.
NetOne has a fair subscriber base of just under 30% of the market, which has however failed to translate into a healthier OneWallet. Accounting for less than 1% of Mobile Money subscribers, it needs to overhaul the product or face extinction.

“Ambition should be made of sterner stuff.” That ought to be etched on every business manager’s wall, especially before setting targets and making projections. All industry captains have to keep in mind the fact that whatever goals are set need to be met with an equal amount of elbow grease. Which is true, even for […]

Just yesterday we were tallking about recharge.co.zw, the online workaround for buying ZESA prepaid electricity that lets you use your EcoCash and Telecash mobile wallets as well as options like VISA and Zimswitch. It turns out that there’s another solution similar to this called ZymPay. Unlike recharge.co.zw, Zympay is targeted at the diaspora, where Zimbabweans who […]

There’s the sweet smell of a telecoms turf war in the air once again. This time its mobile money related, proving how the focus for dominance in telecoms is less and less about traditional services like voice communication. With mobile money as a focal point for revenue growth, Econet and Telecel (anyone seen One Wallet?) […]

So the Gringo investors are yet to recoup their $50 000 because of piracy. Well, if they had stopped to consider all options before releasing their film perhaps they would have made a profit before production started.
On the evening of independence day, 18 April, the Zimbabwean Shona film Gringo the Troublemaker by NAMA award winner writer Enock Chihombori premiered. The 1 hour 50 minutes production was based on the ever popular 1990s series “Gringo”. The reviews were excellent and the movie received a lot of praise from many critics. Yet almost three and half months later the film is still yet to recoup its $48 000 initial cash outlay.
Last month, we wrote about a money transfer service set to launch soon called Afrocoin. With scanty information gleaned from their Crunchbase profile and website holding page, we were not sure of the details of the product it is. We are still not sure about many things, but an image sent to our tips email this afternoon gives more insight into at least their web presence.
A while ago Econet joined the Eztopup platform. Eztopup is an online international company that allows people to buy airtime online using Paypal, Mastercard and Visa Cards. Econet did this ostensibly so those in diaspora can send airtime to their relatives in Zimbabwe. The platform however can be used to buy airtime for your own phone. Being an experimental sort I decided to take the service for a spin.
